Shoveling your Sidewalks Required by Chicago City Law PDF Print E-mail
There's no question that Chicago winters are known for often heavy snowfalls.  But while we're used to seeing snow throughout the winter, residents aren't necessarily aware of their responsibility to remove the white stuff from in front of their property.

Property owners are required by city law to remove snow from the sidewalks in front of apartment buildings, homes, businesses and condominium buildings.  Failure to do so could result in a fine.

Removing snow from sidewalks is not only required by law, it is the safe and neighborly thing to do.  Every association should have a plan in place to handle snow removal from the property, whether you hire an outside company or choose to handle the task in-house.  HausFS recommends that you contract a snow removal company (often the same company that handles your lawn care in milder weather) to keep your sidewalks clear and ensure the safety of your residents.

If you need help locating a snow removal company for your Association, please see the 'Basic Needs Vendors' section of this site.  Chicago Condo Resource can help you to dig your way out from under our snowy
Chicago winters!
