Create an Owner Handbook PDF Print E-mail

When you start a new job, you often receive an Employee Handbook filled with information about how the company operates.  Similarly, new owners should receive an Owner Handbook when they purchase a unit in your building, with everything they need to know about how the Association operates.

Creating and maintaining an Owner Handbook will help the Board to get new owners up to speed quickly and efficiently.  It will also minimize any future conflict.  After all, it’s hard to play the game if you don’t know the rules!

The Owner Handbook should include the following:

  • Declaration & By-Laws

  • Amendments to the Declaration & By-Laws

  • Other Rules & Regulations

  • Current certificate of insurance

  • Collection Policy/How to pay assessments

  • Contact List for unit owners & Board members

  • Current Operating Budget & Assessment Breakdown

  • Recycling Program

Keeping all of these documents in PDF format makes it very easy to provide the Owner Handbook to new owners, and to send new documents to all owners when they are updated.   Paper copies are certainly acceptable as well.

Maintenance of the Owner Handbook can be delegated to the Secretary.  Whenever there is a change to a document, the Secretary should update the Owner Handbook and send new copies to each owner.

Won’t your Association look slick and organized with its informative Owner Handbook!  What a great way to welcome a new owner and show them how well you run your Association.
